Program Information

Thank you for your interest in A Step Ahead Academic Center. We would consider it a privilege to work with you and your child!  Here is general information about our program:

SCHEDULING

Most students attend two 55-minute sessions each week.  These sessions are usually Monday and Wednesday OR Tuesday and Thursday. We will work with you to create a schedule that meets your child’s needs. 

LESSONS

Lessons are designed to meet your child’s needs and learning style. We incorporate hands-on activities and games to make the lessons more meaningful. Lessons align with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Some of the areas we specialize in include:

• Hands-on math instruction
• Reading comprehension strategies
• Writing instruction
• Phonics
• Preparation and remediation for the North Carolina End-of-Grade Test
• SAT Preparation
• GED Preparation
• Small group classes for homeschoolers
  
• Study skills and organizational strategies
• Summer tutoring
  

TUITION

The cost for one-on-one tutoring is $48.00-55.00 per session.  Since children progress at varying rates, you are not required to commit to a long-term contract at A Step Ahead. Enrollment is done on a month-to-month basis.

MATERIALS

The cost of all materials is included in tuition. It would be helpful for your child to bring school materials (i.e., graded tests, homework, textbooks) so we can ensure that we’re aligning our lessons with your child’s immediate needs in the classroom. We will supplement school materials with manipulatives, books, activity sheets, games, and other resources.

COMMUNICATION

Each child has a communication journal that is brought to each session. This is a wonderful tool for you and the tutor to communicate with each other. Your child’s tutor will write a note to you after each session to keep you updated on what your child is studying. 

Your input is invaluable as no one knows your child better than you! Please feel free to write comments in the journal to keep us updated on any concerns or accomplishments you want to share with us. At your discretion, you may also want to share the journal with your child’s teacher so that additional input may be received. 

You will also receive a bi-monthly newsletter from us. The newsletter contains such information as company news, current trends in education, homework tips, and special tutoring sessions offered at A Step Ahead.
